Let the training begin.

So its offical. Starting feburary 1st 2009, I plan to start training for yet another half marathon. This hopefully even in the cold weather will be possible. I would love to get another one done and under the belt. I don't know how I will do time wise but I am not even worried, again it is about fnishing the race, even if its last place. I have not narrowed it down to one specific race yet but I am hoping to find a good one either in March or April. If anyone else wants to run with me, totally do it. It's a wicked experience. Or even if you know of any events to try. I am soooooo excited to start training hard for another run! It should be great times. And I will keep you posted all along the way. Lets hope the snow holds up and there is no ice!

So I must say this is honestly one of the coolest things I have seen in a long time. I give so much power to Dan to attempting this diet, and plan to follow his steps all along the way. Sure I don't know him personally but that wont matter. I still would like to know people are out there supporting him should be good enough. So check out his link!. Join the group facebook. Puzzles

My mind is stuck on puzzles. Not stupid mind puzzles haha. The real deal. Those awesome puzzles of wicked landscapes, or other crazy desgins that you usually see only old people doing. Or during rainy days, those puzzles. Well my friend Jon and I deifntly aren't old, nor was it rainy but instead we decided to build a puzzle anyways. Defintly spent the weekend building a 1000 piece puzzle. It was a hard design too, not an easy place this piece here, this piece here. Nope defintly had tones of blue sky, and tones of green grass and trees, the odd maybe 3 easy parts which were like houses spread through the field. The puzzle took forever to finish, I wasn't there to see the final completeion of the puzzle but none the less every other step of the way I was. I didn't feel like an old person, I actually loved building it, the excitment I got from putting those jagged pieces in place really no lie felt wonderful! It took us 3 days, like 10 movies, 2 hockey games, soup, oatmeal, some delicious lazagna, and multiple breaks for xbox 360 to finish the delightful puzzle, yet in the long run. All worth it. So people get out there and build some puzzles!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cold Bitter Week 3

So the start to yet another frost bitten January Week. This week's runs are up to 10kms. Hopefully the cold doesnt slow me down. Increasing each week with distance. So far my muscles have accepted the cold, my runny nose becomes a pain, but well worth it. My cold is gone, which is an added plus, but lately the streets have increased tremendously with amounts of snow and slush, so it has become harder to run in. Similiar to running in sand on a beach.

Monday

Ran 10km @ around 6:00pm. It was a wicked time to run. The street lights were on and the traffic had died down so there wasn't alot of cars on the road. It was lighty snowing and looked beautiful as I ran along the 10km route. It was quiet and the cold didn't even phase me. Lets hope the rest of the week goes as well as today.

Tuesday
The normal and usual fat tuesday no running.

Wednesday
Didn't run the usual 10km. Huge power outage at Brock and took advantage of the no classes to get some stuff done around the house.

Thursday
Made up for missing the run yesterday. Did a wicked new route of 10km with some tough hills. Not cold at all, perfect weather. Great run. And now wicked frisbee game tongiht. Its playoffs and were missing one of the girls on our team, so it shall be loads of running haha. Poor legs of mine

Friday
Didn't Run, As well Didn't run saturday.

Sunday
Set out for a run, to get a break from studying yet didn't make it as far as planned, nature called and I had to head back home, plus with the amount of ice on sidewalks and raods I decided to call it quits. I think if i mapped it correctly made it about 4km before I stopped and walked back home. Yeah it wasn't 10km but meh it was something.

Women's Only Triathalon - Milton

A way long overdue post, well one at least. I thought I wanted to share upon my adventure of the milton super sprint duathalon. It was something I never thought I would do. I decided that this past summer after completeing the Whitby 10km that I wanted to challenge myself even more. Try something so grueling that it is a challenge to train for all on its own. I began flipping through websites, and multiple brochures until I came to the Milton Triathalon. I like this one alot, since it only consisted of women I wouldn't feel so juged if I did awful. There would be women there of all ages, one's as young as me and others older then my own mother. This run was to take place the last weekend in August, so I had plenty of time to train. I figured since they offered a duathlon so doing only two of the events I would do that instead. Since I am not the worlds fastest swimmer, I wasn't going to drown in the process I decided to only choose running then biking then again to switch back to running. It was 2.5 km of running, 10km of biking then 2.5km of running once again to then come into the finish line.

Once I had signed up for the race, I started to consider trainging. I figured that I would not really need to train for biking and that, that was going to be the easiest part. I was used to riding my bike. I had done it everyday for the entire summer to and home from camp. That I thought would have been good enough. My running I continued to train running around 10km a day for 5 or 6 days a week.

When it came to the actual day of the race I was sooo excited. I still didn't know what to expect but I felt ready to go. They had a specific transition area where we kept our bikes, based on age category. The youngest furthest away from the exit line (just my luck). We then went and all members of the super sprint duathalon lined up at the start line. The gun went off, and we began running. A quick and easy 2.5km, it was nothing, an easy run, since i was used to running so much more it didn't feel challengeing at all. There was 65 members in our race, after crossing the chip line after the first run I was in 12th place with a time of running those 2.5km at 12 minutes. We then hopped on our bikes and took off. I felt good, I was in a wicked position and I wasnt tired, now for the grueling task which at the time I thought was going to be the easiest. The biking was deadly. It was 10km up hill and down hills, out and back around Milton. I was getting passed by tones of women, women of all ages, and with better bikes then myself. They all had those racing bikes, the ones with the super small tires. I'm riding along with my monogoose street mountain bike, getting passed going downhill. The biking was the complete opposite of what I had thought. It was defintly the hardest part. I felt myself peddaling so hard, and found support in another women along the race who passed me cheering me on to keep going and not to give up yet. I knew I couldn't stop. I had to keep going. I got back to the transition area to drop off my bike and head back out on the last 2.5km. I ended up 41 on the biking, with a time of 30:34 to complete that 10km. Heading back out running, was the weirdest feeling ever in my legs. I placed 13th on the final running with a time of 13:32. Everyone who passed me on the biking I found myself passing past them again and I began to feel even greater about myself. I knew running was my strength in that race and was able to climb to a great finish. I came 25 overall out of 65 women. It was nuts!!!!! I place 2nd in my age category and got a wicked technical shirt, and I had an overall finishing time of 57:18, and everyone got a finishers medal which was pretty cool too. Still to this day I still can't believe I finished it. I now know of the hardcoreness (yes thats a word!) of the biking and to train more for that, or maybe train a little more then a light bike ride to work. All in all August 31st was a great day for a duathalon!

Sweet Start to Week 2.

So another week has begun yet again, and yet again I found myself lacing up my runners and heading out for a run. It was bitter cold, but with the proper gear I felt quite ready to tear up those streets. As I headed out I decided it was a good day to increase the normal 5km to a good 8km. It wasn't bad at all, so hopefully as the week continues so does the amount of km that I choose to run. I find myself challenging myself more each time I run. Pursing not necessarily further in distance but a more challengeing run including more hills. HUGE HILLS!. If your from st. Catharines you know excatly the hills I'm speaking off. BIg old burleigh hill and hardcore glenridge. Both I find myself pumping the most energy throughout my body then any other time during the run. Hopefully I am able to keep up with the running this semister and sooner hopefully by the end of the month I have reached my peak of where I was last year of 18km, and then increase from there to work my way up to trying to complete the gruelling task of a full marathon. Stay tuned for tomorrow when I post two very long over due posts regarding my duathlon and still shocking completion of the Toronto Half.

Monday
Chilly but so worth it, fantastic 8km.

Tuesday
Took tuesday off. To enjoy Fat T.V Tuesday!!!!

Wednesday
Today was freezing but I still managed to pull myself out there. I ran 8.5km through snow and slush. And up Glenridge hill, much harder in the winter then summer. If you want a good workout. Run Up that hill!

Thursday
Won't be running today, but I have soccer instead so it should still be a good workout!

Friday
A cold Bitter Morning run, but defintly got me up and energized for the day. A final 8km to end the week. Since No running usually gets done haha. Maybe I should change that.

A new year, a new start.

So 2009 has finally happened. I still can't believe it. But I have accepted it. Last year was an incredible year full of everything I wanted in terms of school, life and running.
I completed second and started third year. I learned to drive haha, met some wonderful new friends at both school and camp, and totally took advantage of ever season and everything it had to offer. I completed my first 10km, my first duthalon and my first half marathon. Might I add the incredible time I had participating in everything. As enjoyable as that all was it was even more enjoyable to train for them. I purchased a wicked pair of shoes, expensive but so worth the money. I trained through snow, rain, and scorching heat all for the joy and aliveness (yes thats a word) that each finishing line brought me.

With 2009 now in effect and my second half of third year starting I have gotten back into my running roots. Hoping for the even more to come within this year. I plan to run a 5km with my mom, participate in another half marathon and even attempt my first FULL. Im scared even talking about doing a full, but hopefully with enough training and determination I can complete one, even if it takes me all day.

Speaking of training I finally got back into it this week. Thats right I woke up put on my runners and headed out while the rest of you slept.

Monday:
Monday was the first run in ages, and I defintly mean ages. It was a good one though, cold but not too cold, well if you were bundled at least. I ran a quick 5km to see if I could still do it. And sure enough I defintly could.

Tuesday:
Took a break from running today, had loads of classes so when I got home I just relaxed, well and dealt with this stupid cold sickness that I have taking over my body. Hopefully to pass by sooner or later.

Wednesday:
Wednesday felt like a good morning to get up and go, little did I know the weather outside. YUCK! None the less I decided to rough it out and go. It was collldddd, I ran through tones of slush and snow. It was defitnly a tricky run, sort of like running through sand. Quiet a work out. Decided to increase my 5km just a little to a good 8km. Well worth it. Still sick to share, and might have actually gotten worse since the last day, lets hope its better for the remaining of the week and not worse

Thursday:
No run outside to share for today, I need to keep my shoes clean for frisbee. Frisbee is a running work out on its own. The size of that gym by gohly!!!! We won frisbee by a long shot. It was a wicked game none the less.

Friday:
Ran a quick 5km around the usual route. Pretty decent and enjoyable. Next week will hopefully try and increase the 5km to a good 7 or 10.
Saturday
No run today. Courtney came up for the weekend, so no time for exercise. Took if easy and off for today and Sunday. Fresh new start monday.

A Quote to Inspire Us All

So I found this quote in a running room magazine and I fell in love. I know it was for an add for nike shoes. But I don't even care. They summed up the power of running pretty well. I've had moments where each one has lived with me, and will continue to live on with me. Cheers to the new year and a fresh new start. Time to get back into the swing of running and training for hopefully a full marathon with a few small 5's and 10k races along the way. Sure it will be tough, but nothing in life comes easy anymore. Time to bust back out my shoes and the rest of my gear, it's time to feel alive.

You pretended the snooze button didn't exist. You dragged your butt out of bed while others slept. While others ate their pancakes. You had a feast of protein, glucose and electrolytes. You double knotted. You left the porch light on and locked the door behind you. TYou ran 5ks, 10ks, marathons. Some days more, some days less. You rewarded a long run with a short run. And a short run with a longer run. Rain tried to slow you, sun tired to microwave you. Snow made you feel like a warrior. You cramped. You bonked. You paid no mind to comfort. On weekedns. On Holidays. You made excuses to keep going. Questioned yourself. Played mind games. Put your heart before your knees. Listened to your breathing. Sweat sunscreen into your eyes. Worked on your farmer's tan. You hit the wall. You went through it. You decided to be a man about it. You decided to be a women about it. Finished what you started proved what you were made of. Just kept putting kilmoeter after kilmoeter on your internal odometer. For 25 years, you ran and we ran with you. How much farther will we go. As far as you will.
